San Antonio Aquarium Sept 2016

Jim and I went to the San Antonio Aquarium for something to do in September.  It just opened since I have been here so is still quite small.  You are really pushing it to spend more than an hour there.  I wanted to see the octopus since they are rare.  It is nothing like the one in Corpus that we went to when the girls were down here.  This one is very interactive but very little.  The mermaid was a real girl with a tail. All the pinky pictures are the octopus.  Of course that is me getting my head bit off by a shark.  Then when we got home the big grasshopper met us at the front door - about 4 - 6 inches

Nerf guns/wars Texas size

The QA dept and our .net developers have ongoing wars with each other as stress relievers so they say.  I got hit in the eye by one of their bullets so I am not a fan but since then they cannot shoot down the rows between the cubes where unsuspecting people like me walk.  You can see one of the developers even has a huge shield.  The huge semiautomatic gun is QA's so you can see why the developers need shields.

Another football game - on a Saturday night, Late September for Homecoming

Yes this is just high school and yes they have a high school homecoming each year.  All the kids from the school had huge corsages on them saying whether they were freshmen or whatever and the ones that were grads had different info as to when they graduated.  At half time the band and dancers went out to entertain but the big entertainment was the crowning of the King and Queen and there entourage.  Yes as you will see one of the guys is dressed up in drag, black dress with sheer top.  I am impressed that he could walk so well in those heels... he actually won to be in the queens court.  The other cool thing was seeing one of the foot ball players going out in the band as a drummer.  Yes you can do both.  Other football players were escorts for the contestants so the girls had beautiful dresses on and the guys were in their uniforms.  The contestants were winners voted in at each level, freshmen, sophomore, senior etc.  In the picture with the 50 yard line in front of them and they have red sashes  The couple on the left were last year's court and the lady on the right was the queen from some year in the early 80's.  She is also one of the coach's wife.  The last picture is to show the size of some of the girls with the flags for twirling with the band.  Good for them for participating.

Sept 29 2016 Expanded the garden around the tree

Sept 27 2016 results of flooding on golf course

yes that is a whole tree pretty flowing down and stuck on the bridge that they golfers have to cross to go to the next hole
They have since replaced all the bridges on all 8 of Jim's courses and raised them higher by about 5 feet so that this won't happen any more.  Everyone keeps asking us about all the flooding that they hear about going on down here.  Well our house is up on a hill with no water near by so other than mud spreading on the roads from the lots where they haven't built the other houses in our neighbourhood - the golf courses are the only place we see damage.  We just stay away from the flooded streets.  We obey those signs that say if there is water on the road - turn around - don't drown.  I used to laugh at those signs but after you watch all the drowning reports on the news, you start to take them more seriously.  Flash floods are common.

Trip home first week of September 2016

Had to take a picture at Blockhouse of the Canadian Flag higher than the American Flag - some things that we just take for granted as how it should be 😇
Not quite the happy place from down here but the St Lawrence is still pretty awesome
Took Mom for a long drive from her new place in Corwall all along the St Lawrence then to Block House for Fish and Chips.  Went up around some places she had lived in Brockville.  We drove by Toniata and she even remembered that that was where Deb and I had gone to school.  She couldn't remember which house on Butterfield though had been hers.  All in all we had a great day together.  The water was pretty calm and the weather was great.
We got a great parking spot at Block house so Mom could see the water without having to get out and about.
This is in San Antonio Airport - they just put it in the week before I flew out so I had to find it and take a picture of course.  It is for the service animals etc to use while they are waiting for their flight so they don't have to make a place securely for people to go outside and back in.  It was spotless since it was just the first week..   When I flew home again in November, I checked it and it was still spotless with no odour so I was very impressed with the upkeep of it...
When I was home I had more tests to see why I hurt when I eat - they can't find anything wrong so good job I didn't get my gallbladder out in Texas since it is fine.  I checked the hat supply as I dropped off about 30 more and all but one of the ones that I dropped off just a few weeks earlier in my August trip were gone.  Yeah - love it when they are put to use

For a few weeks in September Snout Nose Butterflies Pass Through San Antonio As Part Of Annual Migration

Butterflies are usually very pretty but when there are litterally millions in the air all they do is cause a mess.  Everyone's vehicles were plastered with them in the grills and windshields.  This was early September - yes it has been awhile since I updated the blog but I am going through our pictures today so will take a stab at getting it up to date.
These Snout Nose Butterflies were trying to migrate but lots of them didn't make it.  They should bypass freeways if they expect to make it any further.  I have pictures out the front window going down 281 - does taking a picture when you are driving count as texting... coming home it is like a parking lot some nights any way.  Some of the pictures you may think there are just a lot of black dots in the air - they are all butterflies.  Took the other pictures over our house.
Black spots are butterflies
