Golfing and Mission Espada and Melted toy

We went Golfing on Saturday afternoon for something to do.  We went to Mission Del Lago course again which is the one near our house.  We tried to go into the house after but it was all locked up so I guess no one else can steal anything out of it.  We didn't bother the guys to get a key.  We then went to try to find a short cut to Mission Espada which is the Mission closest to our house and is next to the Mission Aquaduct.  The Riverwalk bicycle path starts there so if we buy bikes we wanted to figure out a safe route to get to the path without going on freeways... no luck - the one road on google is closed so I guess we will put the bikes in the truck to get there.
In the morning before we left we just sat and read on the balcony, drinking our coffee of course.  Sparky wanted in his floppy bed which always sits on the balcony.  I had put all of his plastic squeeky toys in the bed when I cleaned up the deck one day.  I tried to take them out so that Sparky would have room to sit.... one toy wouldn't come... it was melted right to the bed.  I finally tugged it away from the bed but the toy is totally disfigured and melted.  Thank goodness it wasn't one of his favourites.

Me in the golf cart.  With my gimmee card that I got for around $50 I only pay $12 for the cart if we golf after 12 on weekends and pay nothing for golf.  I can do it 6 times for the $50.  Jim sits with me when we have to wait and used the GPS on the cart to know how far it is.  Jim uses my push cart so he doesn't have to carry.  Sometimes he rides with me if it is long distance between holes.  Yes I switched hats between pictures.  This one shades more but the other one is cooler on the head.

This is what is left of the melted toy... it is flat and is supposed to be round like a ball

First Walk Through of the house

Today we had to walk through the house and tell them what we wanted fixed or we wouldn't buy it.  We have been telling them all along things so there were only 9 things left today.  We will go again next Tuesday and then close on Wednesday the 29th if all is ok which it should be since not much left.  It was kinda funny when we got there.  They had a red carpet runway up the driveway and a big banner welcome home.  The landscaping is not done yet since they just do that the last minute because of the heat here and the watering restrictions.   Once the sod goes down and the trees are planted we have to be there to water it.  The appliances are there now and we bought a fridge tonight and a sectional so we are all set.

Drum Corp Competition - Alamodome

they only have 5 minutes to get all of their stuff ready for their show so they have buggies to bring the big equipment onto the field

I went to the DCI Competition on Saturday.  It was fantastic.  Brought back tons of memories.  They do it a lot bigger and better down here.

They had a drum battle at the end which was super

lots of their equipment just sits at the front and they don't march around

These drummers started their show way up on top of the ladders

They have equipment transports not little truck like we had.

This is the list of the corps there.  Note there was even one from Netherlands.

Alamodome looks way better in person.  It is huge.

Hard to see but their uniforms were hanging in the transport, so they have a uniform truck and instrument truck

Drive in Friday night

We went to the Drive In Friday night.  They have 3 screens.  In the convertible we were almost the only ones with our car facing the screen.  Most people face the other way and sit in lawn chairs.  We had nice seats in the car with the roof down.  Everyone else had their radios loud so we didn't even have to have ours on.  We do not watch movies much but it was nice to get out.  We watched Ant Man and Jurassic World.  Both were pretty bad.  See below - just thought I would show you the temp on the dash of the car one night on my way home from work.

Shutters on and repairs going well

When we dropped by the house on Sunday we gave a big list to the builders of things that we wanted fixed.  I went to the house on my lunch today and found most of them fixed.  They have finally put the shutters on the front too so the house looks a little different.  I took a side view to see the house on the other side that has a sold sign on it now.  It is coming along nicely too and improves the look of our house.  Just one week to the walk through and only 2 things off of our list left for them to fix.  Still need the appliances and the sod and landscaping but that is done at the end.
I forgot to mention that I had a mani pedi on Sunday that was exciting.... yeah right you say but really.. my feet on the bottom were ticklish during the pedi.... YEAH... ok if you haven't got the significance yet I HAVE FEELING on the bottom of my feet now.  I still can't feel the ends of my toes but at least some has came back.  They said it might take two to three years and this was 3 years from the first chemo so I was getting scared..  All of those walks on the Beach have paid off.
Shutters on ours and the house next door

Trim looks darker now with the shutters.  Not sure if they painted them again darker

Beach on Saturday and exploring Mission Pkwy/Mission San Juan on Sunday

Went to the beach and saw fields and fields covered in red with this plant.  Today saw lots of it around the house as well.  Jim looked it up and found out that it is grain sorghum.  Kinda the Texas equivalent of cow corn.  Guess we know now what they feed all that Texas beef.
One of the 5 missions left of the 7 around San Antonio.  We were exploring the Mission Parkway where you can bike, blade, kayak and walk etc.  We explored this mission in one of the parks on the way.  We will have to go back and  visit the other four.  It said that the missions helped to teach the spanish settlers how to survive

This is the church.  There was a building on the right side that we were not allowed in.  It said that it was a personal residence so we think the priest lives in it.  We were allowed to go in the church.  I didn't take any pictures inside since there were people in the pews praying.  It was beautiful inside.  Amazing since it was built in the 1700's.  We thought we would be going into a shell

this huge cross was at the entance surrounded by cactus

This is one of the buildings where they used to make their rugs and clothes in it.

Busy work week so not much going on

Went to the pool and fitness room a couple of times this week but not much else going on except work.  Jim went to Mission del Lago golf course again today.  No snakes today but saw a donkey on the other side of the fence on 12.  Very strange.  He dropped by the house and saw a little progress.  They have cleaned it up a bit and put in the blinds and the rods in the closets.  Little by little it is getting there.  Just a few weeks to go now.  They must think it is getting close if they cleaned it.  Here are Jim's pictures.  Pretty dark though so I will try to get some tomorrow too.  We are going to stop in tomorrow on the way to my happy place on the beach.

Rattler so they said

Jim found a big one this time.  He says that it was almost 5 feet long.  The guys that he was golfing with said that it was a rattler.  It was just moving across the fairway in front of Jim.

Fireworks

Fireworks at the corner church nearby

corner church far golf course on left
We walked out to the back of our apt complex overlooking the golf course to see the fireworks on the 4th of July.  They set them off at the golf course and the corner church so like you can see in the picture on the right sometimes we were getting both of them.  It was a good show.

Our air conditioner flooded our bathroom on Sat night... just called up mtce and they came and fixed it right away.  No fuss no muss.  Jim says that that won't happen in our house though since the air conditioner is all outside.  Well at least now the floor is really clean in the wash room.  We just stuck around here for the whole long weekend.  We figured it would be too crowded at the beach.  Drove up to the hill country up I10 to see a place that rents kayaks.  It was just like driving up in the Gatineaus.  It was a nice drive but not worth it just to kayak when I can rent one down near where our new house will be.  You can rent them near where the bike paths start down there so I can ride a bike over, rent a kayak and then bike home when we get down there.... Yeah.  Just have to buy a bike first but that will wait until we move in since we don't want to have to move too much.  Hope everyone had a great weekend.

Day off today for the 4th of July

I had to work on the first but had today off for the 4th.  Belated Happy Canada Day everyone and early Happy 4th of July for tomorrow everyone.
Jim and I went golfing today at the golf course near where our house is being built.  It was pretty hot but Jim used my push cart and I rented a cart so we got by.  I have a Gimmee pass which gives me 6 free rounds of golf if I pay for a cart so I used one of those rounds today.  The pass also lets me golf after work for $10 if I walk and 15 if I take a cart.  So far I walk after work but take a cart when we do 18 holes on the weekend.  Jim carries when I walk but uses my push cart all of the rest of the time.  Today he put up the umbrella on it to help give him shade since he forgot a hat.  When we had to wait on some holes Jim could sit with me in my cart in the shade.  It was just in the low 90's so not too bad.  No sign of  100 degree weather yet.
We went to see the house of course when we were there.  We now have sod on the one side of the house because our neighbours got sod so it only made sense to give us ours on that side.  We just hope that the  neighbours water it until we get there.  It looks pretty bad now.  Before we wanted it to stop raining but now the sod would like some water....  Not much different inside.  We finally got to go in and see the carpets down.  They have done a lot of touch up painting and plastering and the thermostat is in for the air and heat but didn't see anything else.  We do the walk through on the 22nd so hope they get the rest done soon.  The houses behind ours are going up fast.  The street down there is almost full of houses now.
